John Russell's Moon Pastel

John Russell's Moon Pastel

On your way to the Top Gallery, take a moment to look at the enormous picture of the moon.

It's over 1.5 metres wide.

And it's not a photograph.

Famous portrait artist John Russell (1745-1806) was also a skilled amateur astronomer.

He made this stunning pastel in 1795.
